How to get a straight Plane?

In order to get a straight and true plane, mark your cutting line out carefully in advance with a pencil and ruler. Use a square to get your line perpendicular, and draw it clearly all the way along your subject.

Now plane in long clean runs from the narrowest to the thickest end, moving your starting point along a little bit each time when you hit the marked line. This way you remove material evenly all the way down and end up with a nice clean edge.
